What's left behind the scenes

  • A very picturesque abandoned factory is shown several times in the first season. The building was constructed in the 1920s, and until 2008, the factory housed there produced breakfast cereals. The building is now intended to be repurposed for residential use. The surrounding area has appeared several times in Edgar Wright's sci-fi comedy The World's End (2013).
  • In one of the episodes, Malcolm McDowell's character is hypnotized by rapidly repeating flashes of light shown on a screen. This is reminiscent of a scene from Stanley Kubrick's (1928-1999) film A Clockwork Orange (1971), where Alex, also played by McDowell, was subjected to similar treatment.
  • The number 1597 appears periodically throughout the first season: first as a PO box number, then as a signal to military personnel warning of an invasion, then as the number of a mouse in a maze, and finally as a brand of washing machine.
  • In the fourth episode, Richard, played by Malcolm McDowell, attends a comic book convention. This episode was filmed at Brunel University in Uxbridge. This same university appears as a medical facility in Stanley Kubrick's sci-fi drama A Clockwork Orange (1971), in which McDowell played the protagonist, Alex.
