Mona Lisa

George is a small-time crook newly released from prison who finds that his reputation as a hard man no longer carries weight. Through his former boss, Mortwell, he takes work as driver and bodyguard for Simone, a high-class call girl. The two initially have little patience for each other, but George comes to care for her, and when she asks him to track down a young woman from her past in King's Cross, he agrees. The search draws him back into the criminal circles he thought he had left behind.

Neil Jordan directed and co-wrote the film with David Leland, following his 1984 feature The Company of Wolves and preceding High Spirits in 1988; it is the second of the fifteen films he has directed. Bob Hoskins leads as George, with Cathy Tyson as Simone, Robbie Coltrane as Thomas and Michael Caine as Mortwell among a credited cast of thirty. Patrick Cassavetti and Stephen Woolley produced.

The film was released in June 1986 and took about six million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.3 from roughly twenty thousand votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.9 from around three hundred votes. A critics' rating of 8.2 from forty-two reviews places it noticeably above the audience scores.
