The Good Teacher follows Julien, a young and committed secondary school teacher who tries to build a rapport with his class, showing particular attention to a shy pupil named Leslie. When that attention is misread by classmates, a rumour takes hold: Julien is accused of sexual misconduct. The allegation spreads through the school, drawing in the girl's older brother and other students, and the situation quickly escapes his control. Although he is innocent, Julien finds himself cut off from pupils and colleagues alike and must struggle to restore his reputation while the school threatens to come apart.
The film is the second feature directed by Teddy Lussi-Modeste, following Jimmy Rivière in 2011, and he wrote the screenplay with Audrey Diwan. François Civil plays Julien, with Shaïn Boumedine, Toscane Duquesne, Mallory Wanecque, Bakary Kebe and Marianne Ehouman among the cast. It is a Belgian-French production from Kazak Productions, Frakas Productions and France 3 Cinéma, produced by Jean-Christophe Reymond and running 92 minutes.
Released in March 2024, the drama-thriller holds a rating of 6.6 out of 10 on IMDb from around 2,500 votes, and 6.4 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 323 votes, indicating a modestly positive but not enthusiastic response from viewers.
