Black Gunn

Black Gunn centres on a nightclub owner in Los Angeles who has built a comfortable life around his business. He believes that financial independence is the surest route to equality and success, and he keeps his distance from more confrontational politics. That position is tested when his younger brother, involved with a militant Black activist group, takes part in a robbery of a white crime syndicate's gambling operation and also seizes ledgers containing incriminating names. The theft brings retaliation, and Gunn is drawn in as a go-between attempting to settle matters before they escalate. The conflict widens into chases through the city, the killing of a drug dealer, and a violent confrontation on the waterfront.

The film was directed by Robert Hartford-Davis, released between Corruption (1968) and The Fiend (1972), from a screenplay by Franklin Coen and Robert Shearer. Jim Brown leads as Gunn, with Martin Landau as Capelli, Brenda Sykes as Judith, Luciana Paluzzi as Toni, Vida Blue as Sam Green and Stephen McNally as Laurento, among 35 credited cast members. It is a British-American production, running 97 minutes.

Audience response has been modest. On IMDb it holds 5.8 out of 10 from 988 votes, and on TMDB 6 out of 10 from 22 votes, indicating a small but slightly warmer showing on the latter.
