Bobi Wine: The People's President is a documentary about the Ugandan musician and parliament member Bobi Wine, who turns his popularity into a campaign against the long-ruling government of Yoweri Museveni. As he runs for president, huge crowds of young supporters gather for his rallies, drawn to his songs and his message of peace and freedom. The campaign is met with arrests, beatings and raids, and the film follows Bobi Wine and his wife, Barbara Kyagulanyi, as they keep going through the pressure and violence.
The film is directed by Christopher Sharp and Moses Bwayo, and produced by John Battsek and Christopher Sharp, with National Geographic Documentary Films among the production companies. It was released in July 2023 and runs 113 minutes. Uganda, the United Kingdom and the United States are the countries behind it.
Bobi Wine, Barbara Kyagulanyi and Museveni appear as themselves. On IMDb the film holds a rating of 7.1 from around 2,000 votes, while on TMDB it has a 6.6 from 35 votes. The larger vote count on IMDb suggests a broader audience response, while the smaller TMDB sample is much more limited. It is the first of two films credited to Sharp and Bwayo, followed by Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within in 2025.
