Short description
A group of strangers is trapped inside a remote bar in the Texas desert when they are attacked by flesh-eating creatures. As the monsters target the patrons, the survivors must work together and use whatever resources they have available to fight for their lives.
Directed by John Gulager, this action horror film was the first of five features he directed, preceding Piranha 3DD. The screenplay was written by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton. The cast includes Henry Rollins, Navi Rawat, Balthazar Getty, Jenny Wade, Duane Whitaker, and Judah Friedlander, among a total of 20 credited actors. The production involved Dimension Films, LivePlanet, Neo Art & Logic, and Maloof Motion Pictures.
Produced with a budget of 3 million USD, the film received a moderate reception from audiences. It holds a 6.2 rating on IMDb based on 36,000 votes and a 6.1 rating on TMDB from 637 votes. Film critics gave the movie a lower score of 5.7 based on 54 reviews, indicating that general viewers viewed the film more favorably than professional critics did.
What's left behind the scenes
- The film was made as part of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s Project Greenlight program. At one point, there were even negotiations for them to participate directly in the filming in the roles that were ultimately played by Baltazar Getty and Josh Zuckerman.
- The role of the Hero, ultimately played by Eric Dane, was initially offered to Mark Wahlberg, but he turned it down. Josh Duhamel also expressed interest in the role, but he was busy with other projects.
- The original script had many more action scenes, but due to financial considerations, the producers decided to do without them.
- During the end credits about the Bartender, viewers learn that he has 70 minutes left to live. Approximately 70 minutes later, the Bartender dies.
