"Sr."

Sr. is a documentary about Robert Downey Sr., the American filmmaker who died in 2021, made by his son, the actor Robert Downey Jr. The film traces the father's life and his career as a director, from his early work through the films that helped shape countercultural comedy in the 1960s and 1970s, and it takes shape as a tribute from a son to a parent whose influence reached well beyond the screen.

Chris Smith directed the film, placing it between Operation Varsity Blues: The College Admissions Scandal (2021) and WHAM! (2023) in a run of documentaries that also includes American Movie, Collapse and Fyre. Robert Downey Jr. serves as one of the producers alongside Susan Downey and Emily Barclay Ford, and Downey Sr. and his son both appear as themselves, with contributors including Alan Arkin, Sean Hayes and Norman Lear.

The production came from Team Downey and Library Films, and the film runs 90 minutes. Its critical standing is the strongest signal in its numbers: on 59 reviews it holds a critics' rating of 7.8 out of 10, while on IMDb viewers give it 7.2 from around 3,900 votes and on TMDB it sits at 6.9 from a much smaller poll of 65 votes.
