Cadillac Man

Joey O'Brien sells cars at a New York dealership, and he is running out of time. His boss gives him a single day to move twelve vehicles or find another job. Money is tight everywhere: alimony is owed to his ex-wife, other women in his life want their share, and a local mob figure is waiting to be paid. On top of that, his teenage daughter has gone missing from home. Joey's talent for talking his way through anything is put to its hardest test when a jealous man armed with a machine gun bursts into the showroom during the big sales day and takes the people inside hostage.

Roger Donaldson directed the film, the fourth of the fifteen features he has made in chronological order, arriving between Cocktail and White Sands. Ken Friedman wrote the screenplay, and Charles Roven and Donaldson produced. Robin Williams plays Joey, with Tim Robbins as Larry, Pamela Reed as Tina, Fran Drescher as Joy Munchack, Zack Norman as Harry Munchack and Lori Petty as Lila among a credited cast of sixty-five.

Released in May 1990, the film mixes comedy, crime and drama and runs 97 minutes. It took in about 28 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.8 out of 10 from roughly 17,000 votes, and on TMDB it also stands at 5.8 from a much smaller pool of 311 votes. A critics' rating of 5.5 from 13 reviews places it close to those audience scores.
