The She Beast

A newly married English couple, Philip and Veronica, are travelling through Transylvania when their car leaves the road and ends up in a lake. Two centuries earlier, villagers drowned a witch in that same water. After the crash, Veronica's body is taken over by the witch's spirit, who intends to take revenge on the descendants of the people who killed her. A local figure, Count von Helsing, sets out to confront her.

Michael Reeves directed and co-wrote the film with F. Amos Powell, and produced it with Paul Maslansky. It was Reeves's first feature, arriving two years before Witchfinder General, the second entry in his short directing career. Barbara Steele plays Veronica, with Ian Ogilvy as Philip, John Karlsen as Count von Helsing, Mel Welles as Ladislav Groper, Joe 'Flash' Riley as the witch and Richard Watson as a police lieutenant. The British-Italian production runs 79 minutes and mixes horror and thriller material with comedy.

Audience response has been modest: on IMDb it holds 4.7 out of 10 from about 1,700 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5 out of 10 from a much smaller group of 49 voters. The two totals differ greatly in size, and the higher TMDB figure reflects the small sample rather than wide approval.
