Wish

Wish is an animated fantasy set in Rosas, a kingdom where people hand over their deepest wishes to its ruler, King Magnifico, who alone decides whether they are granted. Asha, a seventeen-year-old idealist, becomes troubled by what she learns about how those wishes are controlled. In a moment of desperation she appeals to the stars, and her plea draws down a small, playful ball of boundless cosmic energy named Star. With Star, her goat Valentino and the people around her, Asha sets out to stand against the king and free her community from his hold.

The film was directed by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn, from a screenplay by Allison Moore and Jennifer Lee, and produced by Peter Del Vecho and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster-Jones for Walt Disney Animation Studios. It followed Buck's earlier work on Tarzan, Surf's Up, Frozen, Frozen Fever and Frozen II, and was Veerasunthorn's first feature as director. Ariana DeBose voices Asha, with Chris Pine as King Magnifico, Alan Tudyk as Valentino, Angelique Cabral as Queen Amaya, Victor Garber as Sabino and Natasha Rothwell as Sakina among a credited cast of twenty-four.

Wish had a budget of 200 million US dollars and took about 255 million dollars worldwide, a modest return on its cost. On IMDb it holds 5.5 out of 10 from roughly 50,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.2 out of 10 from a much smaller base of 1,835 votes. A critics' rating stands at 5.6 out of 10 from 230 reviews, close to the audience scores.
