Short description
Set in Florida during the 1950s, this comedy follows a group of high school boys driven by their sexual curiosity. The teenagers attempt to visit Porky's, a local strip club, to satisfy their desires. However, they are swindled and humiliated by the establishment's owner and his brother, who serves as the local sheriff. In response to this treatment, the boys coordinate a series of pranks and schemes to get revenge on the men.
The film was directed and written by Bob Clark, marking his third feature film after Black Christmas and Murder by Decree. The cast includes Dan Monahan, Mark Herrier, Wyatt Knight, Roger Wilson, Cyril O'Reilly, and Tony Ganios. A joint production from Canada and the United States involving 20th Century Fox, Melvin Simon Productions, and Astral Bellevue Pathé, the movie was made with a budget of 4 million USD. It proved highly successful commercially, earning 160 million USD at the worldwide box office.
Audience reception has been moderately positive, with a 6.2 rating on IMDb from 49,000 votes and a 6.4 rating on TMDB from 997 votes. In contrast, film critics gave the movie a lower score of 4.7 based on 41 reviews.

- For 24 years, from fall 1982 to fall 2006, “Porky’s” was the highest-grossing film in the history of Canadian box office. Its total gross was 11.2 million Canadian dollars. This record was surpassed only in October 2006 by the crime comedy “Bon Cop, Bad Cop” (2006).
- "Porgy" was the first film to gross over one million pounds in Ireland. Initially, it was banned from distribution. Permission was obtained only after an appeal against the initial decision of the cultural authorities.
- Director and screenwriter Bob Clark collected material for the film for at least fifteen years. It included stories and events that happened to the guys of his generation in various places, as well as his own memories from when he was a high school and college student in Florida. Many of the characters were based on his friends from that period, or classmates from school or college.
