Short description
Set in a coastal Irish village in the 1970s, the film follows Finbar Murphy, a man with a violent past who has settled into a quiet life far from the political unrest gripping the rest of the country. His attempt to leave his old life behind is disrupted by the arrival of a group of militants led by the ruthless Doireann McCann. As tensions rise, Finbar is drawn into a conflict that forces him to choose between protecting his friends and neighbours and keeping his secrets hidden.
Robert Lorenz directed the film, his third feature after Trouble with the Curve and The Marksman. Liam Neeson plays Finbar, with Kerry Condon as Doireann and Ciarán Hinds, Jack Gleeson, Colm Meaney and Sarah Greene among the supporting cast. The screenplay was written by Terry Loane and Mark Michael McNally, and the production involved companies from Belgium, Ireland, the United States, France and Switzerland.
Released in October 2023, the film has a runtime of 106 minutes and falls within the action, crime, drama and thriller genres. It earned around 4 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.4 from roughly 31,000 votes, and on TMDB it also sits at 6.4, from about 648 votes. - When Finbar and Curtis (played by Liam Neeson and Desmond Eastwood, respectively) are driving in a car, the conversation turns to the Fomorians. This is a race of supernatural creatures from Irish mythology. They were originally said to have come from under the seabed or from under the earth, and later were depicted as sea robbers and giants. They are considered to have been the first inhabitants of Ireland, but then they were defeated in a war with another race of supernatural creatures called the Tuatha Dé Danann.
