Demonoid

Jennifer Baines travels to Mexico to visit her husband Mark, who is trying to reopen an old silver mine. The workers refuse to go underground, believing a curse guards the site, so the couple descends into the mine themselves to prove there is nothing to fear. Instead they release a demonic force, which fixes on the silver hand once hidden there and takes possession of the left hands of the people it touches, driving them toward diabolical behavior. Jennifer discovers that destroying one victim does not stop the hand, which moves on to a new host, and a priest becomes involved in the attempt to end the possession.

Alfredo Zacarías directed, co-wrote and produced Demonoid, a Mexican-American horror production released in early 1981 and running eighty minutes. Samantha Eggar plays Jennifer, with Stuart Whitman as Father Cunningham, Roy Jenson as Mark, and Narciso Busquets, Erika Carlsson and Lew Saunders in supporting roles.

The film sits early in Zacarías's directing career, and it received a limited theatrical life rather than a wide release. Its ratings are modest and consistent: on IMDb it holds 4.7 out of 10 from around 2,100 votes, and on TMDB it also stands at 4.7 out of 10, from a much smaller pool of 56 votes. Those figures indicate a horror title with a small, mainly cult following rather than a broad audience.
