Michael Jackson's Thriller is a short horror-musical film built around the song of the same name. It opens with Michael and his girlfriend at a movie theatre; when they leave and walk through the night, the evening turns into a nightmare as the dead rise and come after them. The story moves between an ordinary date, a monster transformation, and a choreographed dance sequence performed by Michael Jackson and a group of zombies.
John Landis directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Jackson, and produced it with George Folsey Jr. and Jackson. It was Landis's fifth film as director, following An American Werewolf in London in 1981 and preceding Trading Places the same year. The cast includes Michael Jackson as himself, Ola Ray as his girlfriend, and Vincent Price as the narrator's voice, with a credited cast of 37. Running 14 minutes, it was produced by Optimum Productions on a budget of one million dollars.
Thriller became the most commercially successful music video of its time, with a worldwide gross of 76 million dollars that reflects its scale far beyond a typical promotional clip. On IMDb it holds 8.7/10 from 18,618 votes, and on TMDB 8.2/10 from 802 votes.
