DragonHeart: A New Beginning

Geoff is an orphaned stable boy living in a monastery and dreaming of becoming a knight. His life changes when he discovers Drake, the last dragon on Earth, hatched from an egg kept hidden by the monks for years. The two become friends, and together they set out to prove themselves as heroes. But their new life draws attention: a ruthless nobleman has his eye on the dragon's heart, which legend says can grant immortality. The kingdom's future rests on whether Geoff and Drake can stand against the danger closing in on them.

DragonHeart: A New Beginning was released in 2000 as a direct-to-video fantasy adventure and serves as a follow-up to the 1996 film. It was directed by Doug Lefler, who made his feature directing debut here and went on to direct The Last Legion in 2007. Raffaella De Laurentiis produced. Christopher Masterson plays Geoffrey, with Harry Van Gorkum as Lord Osric of Crossley, Rona Figueroa as Lian, Matt Hickey, Henry O and Tom Burke rounding out the cast.

Reception has been modest. On IMDb the film holds a rating of 4.5 from around 5,400 votes, and on TMDB it sits at 5.4 from roughly 327 votes. A small sample of critics rated it 4.8 out of 10 from five reviews, a level similar to the audience scores rather than markedly above or below them. The numbers suggest a fantasy sequel that found a small audience and mixed reactions.
