102 Dalmatians continues the story begun in 101 Dalmatians, picking up three years after Cruella de Vil was jailed for trying to turn spotted puppies into a fur coat. Declared rehabilitated and released on parole, Cruella claims to have become a devoted animal-rights supporter, even funding a struggling dogs' home in London. Her probation officer, Chloe Simon, doubts the transformation, and when puppies descended from the original Dalmatians go missing, suspicion falls on Cruella. Investigating alongside Chloe are Kevin Shepherd, who runs the shelter, a Dalmatian puppy born without spots, and a parrot named Waddlesworth who is convinced he is a dog.

Kevin Lima directed the film, his third feature after A Goofy Movie and Tarzan. Glenn Close returns as Cruella, with Gérard Depardieu as the French furrier Jean Pierre Le Pelt, Ioan Gruffudd as Kevin, Alice Evans as Chloe, Tim McInnerny as Alonzo and Eric Idle providing the parrot's voice; the credited cast runs to 49 performers. Kristen Buckley, Brian Regan and Bob Tzudiker wrote the screenplay, and Edward S. Feldman produced. Made for about 85 million USD, it took roughly 184 million USD worldwide, a solid commercial return though below the original's scale.
