Captain Apache is a Western set in the American Southwest, where a U.S. Army officer of Native American descent is assigned to look into the killing of an Indian agent. The victim's last words, "April morning," are the only clue he has to work with, and the people who might help him explain them keep dying before he can reach them. The investigation points toward a powerful landowner named Griffin, whose schemes threaten the local tribes.
The film stars Lee Van Cleef as the title character, with Carroll Baker, Stuart Whitman, Percy Herbert, Elisa Montés and Tony Vogel in supporting roles. It was directed by Alexander Singer and written by Milton Sperling and Philip Yordan, who also produced alongside Irving Lerner. A British and Spanish co-production, it runs 94 minutes.
Captain Apache was Alexander Singer's first feature as director, followed years later by Time Travelers. On TMDB it holds a rating of 4.7 from a small number of votes, which indicates a limited and largely unenthusiastic response from those who have logged it. Van Cleef was by this point established as a leading face of the European-made Western, and the film places him at the center of a mystery rather than a straightforward gunslinger story.
