This documentary focuses on Indonesian intellectuals who were barred from returning to their home country following the 1965 mass killings and political shifts intended to destroy the Indonesian Communist Party. Many of these scholars were living in China or the Soviet Union at the time and were forced into stateless exile across various European nations. The film follows these individuals through Germany, Sweden, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, and Indonesia as they recount the trauma of their displacement and attempt to reclaim their national identity and sense of home.
Directed by Lola Amaria, this is the second film she has directed after Lima in 2018. Amaria also served as a producer and co-wrote the screenplay with Gunawan Raharja. The production was handled by Lola Amaria Production and Yayasan Bumi Karya Lestari. The cast features several individuals appearing as themselves, including Asahan Aidit, Chalik Hamid, Djumaini Kartapawira, Hartoni Ubes, Sarjio Mintardjo, and I Gede Arka. The film has a runtime of 118 minutes. On TMDB, it holds a high rating of 8.7/10, though this is based on a small sample of 3 votes.
