Heaven

Philippa, a British teacher living in Turin, loses her husband to a drug overdose. When the police show no interest in pursuing the dealer she holds responsible, she takes matters into her own hands and plants a bomb in his office. The device kills four bystanders instead of her intended target, and she is arrested without resistance while the authorities insist the attack was politically motivated. A young officer who serves as her interpreter during questioning becomes convinced she is worth saving, and his feelings for her lead him to risk his career for a plan to set her free.

Tom Tykwer directed the film, which followed his 1998 breakthrough Run Lola Run and preceded Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. Krzysztof Kieślowski and Krzysztof Piesiewicz wrote the screenplay, and Cate Blanchett plays Philippa, with Giovanni Ribisi as the officer Filippo.

Heaven is a German, British, American and French co-production, made for about 11 million dollars. It earned roughly 4 million dollars worldwide, well below its cost. On IMDb it holds 6.9 out of 10 from around 27,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.5 from a much smaller base of about 300 ratings. The critics' rating is 7 out of 10 from 88 reviews, above the audience scores.
