Autumn in New York

Will Keane owns a successful New York restaurant and moves through life as an unattached womanizer, keeping his relationships brief and free of commitment. His routine changes when he meets Charlotte Fielding, a much younger woman whose openness and energy challenge his habits and his ideas about love. What begins as another casual romance becomes something deeper, even as Charlotte's serious illness places a limit on the time they can share. Anthony LaPaglia, Elaine Stritch, Vera Farmiga and Sherry Stringfield appear alongside the leads.

Joan Chen directed the film, her second feature after Xiu Xiu: The Sent-Down Girl, from a screenplay by Allison Burnett. Richard Gere plays Will and Winona Ryder plays Charlotte, roles that put an established star and a younger actress at the center of the story. The production, backed by Lakeshore Entertainment and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, had a budget of 65 million dollars and took in about 91 million dollars worldwide, a modest return relative to its cost.

Audience responses were mixed. On IMDb the film holds 5.6 out of 10 from roughly 30,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.1 out of 10 from far fewer votes. A critics' score of 4.3 out of 10 across 71 reviews places professional opinion below the audience averages. The film runs 103 minutes.
