Henry V

In 1415, during the Hundred Years' War, the young English king Henry V presses his claim to the French crown and takes an army across the Channel. The campaign proves harder than expected, and after a long march his tired, outnumbered force meets a much larger French army near Agincourt. Henry, a ruler who fights alongside his men, chooses to give battle. The film also follows the doubts and disagreements within his own camp.

Kenneth Branagh directed and wrote the screenplay, and plays Henry in the first of the eighteen films he has directed to date; Dead Again followed in 1991. The cast includes Derek Jacobi as the Chorus, Brian Blessed as Exeter, Paul Scofield as the French king and Emma Thompson as Katherine, with 43 credited cast members and 75 credited crew.

Made for about 9 million dollars and released in October 1989, the film took roughly 10 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.5 out of 10 from around 33,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.1 out of 10 from about 420 votes, while a critics' rating stands at 8.5 out of 10 from 41 reviews, higher than either audience score. It runs 137 minutes.
