Carl's Date

Carl Fredricksen reluctantly agrees to a date with a woman he knows, but he admits he has no idea how courtship works these days. His ever-helpful dog Dug steps in to settle his nerves before the outing and offers advice on making friends, drawn from a dog's own experience. The animated short blends adventure, comedy, family and romance around this central pairing.

Bob Peterson directed and wrote the screenplay, with Kim Collins producing. It is the fifth directorial credit listed for Peterson, following four short installments of the Forky Asks a Question series between 2019 and 2020. Ed Asner voices Carl, and Peterson voices both Dug and Alpha, among a credited crew of 53. Pixar produced the nine-minute film in the United States, and it was released on June 15, 2023.

Audience response has been generally favorable, though not unanimous. On IMDb it holds 6.4 out of 10 from around 4,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.4 out of 10 from 464 votes. The gap suggests a warmer reception among the latter group and a more mixed one among the larger IMDb sample.
