Hammarskjöld: Fight for Peace

Set during the Cold War in 1961, this drama follows Dag Hammarskjöld, the Secretary General of the United Nations. While attempting to establish peace in African nations following decolonization, Hammarskjöld works to prevent global leaders and wealthy entrepreneurs from exploiting local resources. The arrival of an old friend in New York causes him to question his intense devotion to his professional vision. After United Nations peacekeepers are killed in the Congo, he leads UN forces in their first wartime operation and eventually boards a plane to negotiate a ceasefire with his opponents.

Directed by Per Fly, this production is the third film in his directing career, following Waltz for Monica and Backstabbing for Beginners. Fly also co-wrote the screenplay with Ulf Ryberg. The movie is a joint production from Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, featuring a cast of 53 credited performers. Mikael Persbrandt stars in the title role, alongside Francis Chouler, Cian Barry, Colin Salmon, Sara Soulié, and Hakeem Kae-Kazim.
