The Last Frontier

Set in October 1941, the film follows approximately 3,500 military students from Podolsk and their officers who are deployed to the Ilyinsky line. Tasked with supporting the Soviet 43rd Army, these young men must hold a defensive position to delay the German advance toward Moscow until reinforcements can arrive. Despite being heavily outnumbered by the opposing forces, the group engages in a struggle lasting nearly two weeks, resulting in heavy casualties.

Directed by Vadim Shmelyov, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Igor Ugolnikov, the production was handled by VoenFilm and Cinema Fund. The ensemble cast includes Aleksey Bardukov, Evgeniy Dyatlov, Sergei Bezrukov, Lyubov Konstantinova, Artem Gubin, and Igor Yudin, with 46 credited actors in total.
