Bounce

Bounce is a drama about Buddy Amaral, an advertising executive in Los Angeles who is stranded at Chicago's airport by a snowstorm shortly before Christmas. Offered a seat on a flight home, he gives it up to a family man named Greg Janello so he can spend the holiday with his wife and children, while Buddy stays behind with a woman he has just met. The plane crashes, killing everyone on board, and Buddy is left to carry the weight of having survived by accident. Months of drinking and guilt follow until, as part of his recovery, he sets out to find the widow he believes he made, hoping to make some kind of amends. Meeting Abby Janello and her children unexpectedly changes what he intended, and he is left with the problem of telling her who he really is.

Don Roos wrote and directed the film, his second feature after The Opposite of Sex, and he went on to make Happy Endings and The Other Woman. Ben Affleck and Gwyneth Paltrow play Buddy and Abby, with Tony Goldwyn as Greg, Natasha Henstridge, Johnny Galecki and Joe Morton among the supporting cast.

Released in November 2000, the film cost around 35 million dollars and took in roughly 37 million worldwide, a modest return. It holds a 5.8 rating on IMDb from about 22,000 votes and the same score on TMDB from a much smaller number of votes. A critics' rating of 6.2 from 106 reviews places it slightly above the audience scores.
