Winter People

Set in 1934, this drama follows Wayland Jackson, a widower who arrives in a poor mountain village in North Carolina with his young daughter. He is welcomed by Collie Wright, a single mother with a child. As Wayland and Collie develop a romantic relationship, they become entangled in a violent feud between the Wright and Campbell clans. The conflict intensifies when the identity of the child's father is revealed, leading to a confrontation between Wayland and the father of the baby.

The film was directed by Ted Kotcheff, who also directed Switching Channels and Weekend at Bernie's earlier in 1989. The screenplay was written by Carol Sobieski and produced by Robert H. Solo. The movie stars Kurt Russell as Wayland Jackson and Kelly McGillis as Collie Wright, with supporting performances by Lloyd Bridges, Mitchell Ryan, Jeffrey Meek, and Don Michael Paul.
