Short description

Knight Rider 2000 is a 1991 American television film set in a future where firearms have been outlawed and replaced by ultrasonic weapons that paralyse rather than kill, while convicted criminals are kept frozen for the length of their sentences. When a wave of shootings with handguns that were supposed to have been destroyed strikes, including the killing of a mayor, Michael Knight is pulled out of retirement. He agrees to return to the Foundation for Law and Order only on the condition that his old artificially intelligent car, K.I.T.T., is reactivated, even though the vehicle had been deactivated and dismantled years earlier. Working alongside Devon Miles and police officer Shawn McCormick, who is recovering from a head injury, he takes on a black market in banned weapons that reaches into the police itself.

Alan J. Levi directed, following his earlier Battlestar Galactica by more than a decade; Rob Hedden wrote the screenplay and produced with Michele Brustin. David Hasselhoff reprises his role as Michael Knight from the Knight Rider series, with Edward Mulhare returning as Devon Miles and Susan Norman as Shawn McCormick. Carmen Argenziano voices K.I.T.T. and appears as Russell Maddock, and Mitch Pileggi plays Thomas J. Watts.

The film runs 95 minutes. Its ratings sit below the midpoint on both IMDb, at 4.6 from around 3,800 votes, and TMDB, at 5.6 from roughly 125 votes, indicating a modest and limited audience response.
