Short description
Val McKee and Earl Bassett are in a fight for their lives when they discover that their desolate town has been infested with gigantic, man-eating creatures that live below the ground.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Principal photography took place in Lone Pine, California. The mountains visible in the distance in some shots are the Sierra Nevada mountain range. After filming, the set was completely dismantled.
  • An elephant hunting rifle from Bert's collection, manufactured by the French company Darne, was borrowed from a weapons collector. It was fired with blank cartridges specially created for this purpose.
  • Before the filmmakers decided to title the film "Tremors," working titles included "Under Perfection," "Dead Silence," and "Earth Sharks."
  • The scene with Bert Hammer’s wall covered in weapons was filmed in various locations, so the wall had to be recreated each time.
  • Originally, a different ending was planned. Val and Earl head to Bixby, there is no romantic relationship between Val and Rhonda, although some hints of it are present. Val and Earl search for a lighter, remember it was left with Rhonda, and turn back. This ending was filmed and shown to a focus group, who did not like it. Nevertheless, this version of the finale is available in the "Bonus Materials" section of the film's DVD release.
