Short description
Long-buried wounds rise to the surface when iconic pop star Mother Mary reunites with her estranged best friend and former costume designer Sam Anselm on the eve of her comeback performance.
What's left behind the scenes
- In the screenplay, the Red Woman is described simply as a "ghostly red image." She was portrayed on screen without the use of computer graphics. The filmmakers were assisted by Daniel Wurtzel from Brooklyn, who is famous for installations using air currents and lightweight fabrics.
- Production designer Francesca Balestra di Mottole herself developed the design of the flooring and the loft where Michaela Coel's character conceived the images of future creations. Initially, everything was monochromatic, and color and lighting were added later.
- Preparing for the shoot, Anne Hathaway took dance lessons herself, visited dance studios and performances, and reviewed relevant video recordings.
- Initially, director and screenwriter David Lowery intended to film with only two main characters, but over time, he had to abandon this idea.
- The dress for the final scene of the character played by Anne Hathaway was created by Iris van Herpen from the Netherlands, who is known for her gowns for Lady Gaga, Björk, and Tilda Swinton, and who combines traditional couture with modern technology (such as 3D printing) in her work.
