Short description
A famous pop star named Mother Mary reconnects with Sam Anselm, a fashion designer and former close friend, as she prepares for a return to the stage. Their reunion, centered on the creation of a new dress, brings back unresolved tensions and emotional wounds from their shared past.
Directed and written by David Lowery, this film follows his previous work on An Almost Christmas Story. The movie features a cast including Anne Hathaway, Michaela Coel, Hunter Schafer, FKA Twigs, Sian Clifford, and Kaia Gerber. What's left behind the scenes
- In the screenplay, the Red Woman is described simply as a "ghostly red image." She was portrayed on screen without the use of computer graphics. The filmmakers were assisted by Daniel Wurtzel from Brooklyn, who is famous for installations using air currents and lightweight fabrics.
- Production designer Francesca Balestra di Mottole herself developed the design of the flooring and the loft where Michaela Coel's character conceived the images of future creations. Initially, everything was monochromatic, and color and lighting were added later.
- Preparing for the shoot, Anne Hathaway took dance lessons herself, visited dance studios and performances, and reviewed relevant video recordings.
- Initially, director and screenwriter David Lowery intended to film with only two main characters, but over time, he had to abandon this idea.
- The dress for the final scene of the character played by Anne Hathaway was created by Iris van Herpen from the Netherlands, who is known for her gowns for Lady Gaga, Björk, and Tilda Swinton, and who combines traditional couture with modern technology (such as 3D printing) in her work.
- In the role of Imogen, British singer FKA Twigs (born Tahliah Debrett Barnett) emulated a street dance style called 'krumping' and trained with the UK-based dance collective Wet Wipes.
