Godsend

When Paul and Jessie Duncan lose their eight-year-old son Adam in a car accident, a geneticist named Richard Wells approaches them with an offer: he can clone the boy using his DNA. Paul initially rejects the idea, but Jessie keeps the doctor's contact details, and the couple eventually agrees to the procedure, moving to Riverton so that Wells can carry it out at his fertility clinic. The clone grows up as a second Adam, and for a while the family settles into something like its old life, until the boy's eighth birthday passes and he begins to change.

The film is a Canada-United States co-production directed by Nick Hamm, who made The Hole in 2001 and went on to direct Killing Bono, The Journey, Driven, Gigi & Nate and William Tell. Mark Bomback wrote the screenplay, and the cast includes Greg Kinnear, Rebecca Romijn, Robert De Niro, Cameron Bright, Zoie Palmer and Munro Chambers.

Godsend was released in April 2004 and runs 102 minutes. Made for a budget of 25 million US dollars, it grossed around 30 million worldwide in cinemas. Ratings are low across the board: on IMDb it holds 4.8 out of 10 from about 27,000 votes, on TMDB 4.9 out of 10 from over 500 votes, and a film critics' rating of 3.6 out of 10 from 136 reviews places it in similar territory to the audience scores on both platforms.
