Major League II

Major League II continues the story of the Cleveland Indians, the beleaguered baseball team introduced in the 1989 comedy Major League. Several years on from their rise to contenders, the players have gone soft: success has turned them into complacent stars, and their hunger for the game has faded. Roger Dorn, now the team's owner, and Jake Taylor, moving from catcher to manager, have to find a way to shake the squad out of its lethargy and push the club back toward a championship run. Charlie Sheen returns as pitcher Rick Vaughn, alongside Tom Berenger, Corbin Bernsen, Dennis Haysbert and James Gammon, with Omar Epps joining the cast as Willie Mays Hayes.

David S. Ward again directs, having made the first film five years earlier, his third feature before this one and his fourth overall in a run that also includes King Ralph and Down Periscope. R.J. Stewart wrote the screenplay, and James G. Robinson and Ward produced. The production was made for about 25 million dollars and returned roughly 31 million worldwide, a modest showing next to its predecessor.

Audience response was middling: on TMDB it holds 5.7 out of 10 from around 380 votes, while critics rated it 3.3 out of 10 across 22 reviews, a clear gap between professional and viewer opinion.
