Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge centres on Raj and Simran, two young Indians raised in London. Simran's father, Baldev Singh, has remained deeply attached to the traditions of his homeland and has promised his old friend in Punjab that their children will marry. Simran travels to India for that arranged match. Before she leaves, she and Raj meet during a trip through Europe, and their feelings for each other develop. Raj follows her to India, where he must win over a family determined to see the original promise kept and confront the expectations of a father who has no interest in a suitor of his daughter's choosing.

The film is the first directed by Aditya Chopra, who also wrote the screenplay; his later directing work includes Mohabbatein and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. It was produced by Yash Chopra for Yash Raj Films and stars Kajol as Simran and Shah Rukh Khan as Raj, with Amrish Puri as Chaudhry Baldev Singh, Farida Jalal as Lajwanti Singh, Anupam Kher as Dharamvir Malhotra and Pooja Ruparel as Rajeshwari Singh. Made for a budget of around 40 million USD and running 190 minutes, it has maintained strong audience scores of 8/10 on IMDb from roughly 85,000 votes and 8.5/10 on TMDB from over 4,600 votes.
