Yannick

Yannick is a French comedy-drama set in a small Parisian theatre, where a poorly staged boulevard play titled "Le Cocu" is being performed for a sparse audience. Partway through the evening, a spectator named Yannick stands up from his seat and interrupts the performance, voicing his dissatisfaction with what he is watching and seizing control of the night on his own terms. What begins as a complaint against the actors develops into a confrontation that upends the rest of the evening for everyone in the room.

Quentin Dupieux wrote and directed the film, which runs just over an hour. It is the eleventh of the sixteen features he has directed, arriving between Smoking Causes Coughing in 2022 and Daaaaaalí! in 2024. Raphaël Quenard plays the title role, with Arthur Cauras appearing as a spectator. Dupieux produced alongside Thomas Verhaeghe and Hugo Sélignac.

Released in France in August 2023, the film took in roughly four million dollars worldwide. Audiences have rated it highly, with a 7 out of 10 on IMDb from around 8,200 votes and a 7.1 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 750 votes, and it holds a comparable critics' rating of 7 out of 10 from 19 reviews. The cast is small and the setting confined, with much of the drama unfolding in real time within the theatre.
