Short description

Police Story 3: Super Cop follows Hong Kong detective Kevin Chan, who is pulled into a joint operation with Chinese authorities and Interpol to take down an international drug trafficking network led by the powerful Chaibat. To get close to the organisation, Kevin is given a new identity and planted inside a prison labour camp, working alongside Chinese officer Captain Jessica Yang, who has also gone undercover. Their partnership carries them from China back to Hong Kong as they try to gain the gang's trust while keeping their cover intact.

The film was directed by Stanley Tong and written by Edward Tang, Fibe Ma and Lee Wai-Yee, with Willie Chan and Edward Tang producing. It was Tong's first feature in the director's chair, followed later by Supercop 2, Rumble in the Bronx, Police Story 4: First Strike and other titles. Jackie Chan plays Kevin, Michelle Yeoh plays Jessica Yang, and Maggie Cheung returns as May, with Kenneth Tsang, Yuen Wah and Bill Tung in supporting roles. It grossed around 34 million US dollars worldwide.

Audience scores differ by platform: on IMDb it holds 5.8/10 from a small number of votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.9/10 from a much larger base. A film critics' rating of 7.3/10 from 55 reviews places it above both audience figures.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The film ranks 16th among the 20 best films since 1992, according to Quentin Tarantino.
  • The stunt with the rope ladder dropped from a helicopter was performed at a height of 300 meters.
  • During filming, Chan was unable to dodge a helicopter flying towards him, resulting in injuries to his shoulder and back.
  • During the chase, when Ying falls from the van onto the car with Kevin, she breaks the windshield and frame. When the chase continues, the windshield and frame are again intact and in place.
  • When Jackie is chasing in the red car and Chaibat is shooting at him from a helicopter, you can see that the car first drives under the bridge, then stands there to our right while another car flips over, and then drives out on our left.
