The Rescuers Down Under

A young boy named Cody has befriended a rare golden eagle in the Australian outback. When a ruthless poacher called Percival McLeach captures the bird's location by kidnapping the boy, Cody's call for help reaches the Rescue Aid Society. The organization sends its two top agents, the mice Bernard and Miss Bianca, who travel to Australia with the bumbling albatross Wilbur. There they join forces with a local operative, Jake the kangaroo rat, to rescue Cody and protect the eagle from the poacher.

The film is a Walt Disney Pictures animated adventure directed by Mike Gabriel and Hendel Butoy, both of whom made their directing debut here and went on to further work for the studio. Joe Ranft, Karey Kirkpatrick and Jim Cox wrote the screenplay, Thomas Schumacher produced, and the voice cast includes Bob Newhart, Eva Gabor, John Candy, Tristan Rogers, Adam Ryen and George C. Scott. It runs 77 minutes.

Produced on a budget of 38 million dollars, the film took in about 47 million dollars worldwide, a modest return. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.8 from roughly 51,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.6 from over 1,400 votes. A critics' score of 7 out of 10 from 66 reviews places it somewhat above the audience ratings.
