The Movie Man

This documentary follows a man who spent more than seven decades immersed in cinema. When movie theaters close and production halts, he finds himself isolated from the industry he loves. To cope with this restricted reality, he explores his extensive film archive and contacts various international actors and directors, including Oliver Assayas, Isabella Rossellini, and John Sayles. The story examines how cinema allows people to access different worlds and provides the emotional resilience needed to face personal hardships.

The film was directed by Matt Finlin, marking the first entry in a chronological list of his work that also includes Matter of Time. Produced by Karen Barzilay through Door Knocker Media, this Canadian production features Keith Stata, the owner of Highlands Cinemas. The cast also includes Roland Hamilton, a partner at the cinema, and Len Green, who is identified as the first ticket buyer. Other participants appearing as themselves include retired shop owner John Dettman and neighbors Julie and Glen Weiller. The final runtime of the movie is 88 minutes.
