Lucky Luke
Short description
Lucky Luke arrives in Daisy Town, a frontier settlement that has become a haven for outlaws, brawls and shootouts. Taking the job of sheriff, he sets out to restore order and drive the criminals away. His efforts are complicated by the Dalton brothers, who are determined to cause trouble, and by other threats to the town's peace, including a scheme to stir up conflict with the local tribes. Around the same time, Lucky Luke's sweetheart Lotta claims to have seen a ghost train racing across the prairie, and the frightened townspeople begin calling for vigilante justice.
The film is a comedy western directed by and starring Terence Hill, who plays the title role. It was his first time in the director's chair, followed by Troublemakers in 1994. Lori Hill wrote the screenplay, and Lucio Bompani produced. The cast includes Nancy Morgan as Lotta Legs, Roger Miller as the voice of Jolly Jumper, and Ron Carey, Dominic Barto and Bo Greigh as the Dalton brothers, with 47 credited performers in all. The film runs 92 minutes and was released in July 1991.
Audience response has been modest. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.2 from around 4,500 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 5.4 from roughly 217 votes. Both figures point to a film that found a limited but not negligible viewership rather than wide enthusiasm.
What's left behind the scenes
- Speaking about the scene in which his character (Lucky Luke) lies next to a lion, actor Terence Hill noted that the lion was from Colorado and was wild, not trained. Pieces of raw meat were placed around the actor, and he was told to lie still and pretend to be asleep. The lion did not attack the actor; instead, it attacked the camera filming the scene and then ran away.
