Patton

Patton is a biographical war drama about General George S. Patton Jr., the American tank commander whose career during the Second World War was shaped as much by his forceful temperament as by his strategic skill. The story follows him from the campaign in North Africa, where he takes command of US forces after their defeat by Rommel's Afrika Korps, through the invasion of Sicily and on into Europe, where he leads an army across France and into Germany. His blunt, undiplomatic remarks and his conflicts with fellow commanders repeatedly put his position at risk.

Franklin J. Schaffner directed the film, which sits between Planet of the Apes and Nicholas and Alexandra in his filmography. Francis Ford Coppola and Edmund H. North wrote the screenplay, and Frank McCarthy produced it. George C. Scott plays Patton, with Karl Malden as General Omar N. Bradley and Stephen Young as Captain Chester B. Hansen.

Released in 1970, the film runs 172 minutes and was made for about 12 million dollars, returning roughly 90 million worldwide.
