What the Peeper Saw

A widowed English writer, Paul, brings his new wife, Elise, to a remote house he keeps in Spain. Soon after they arrive, she notices disturbing behaviour in his twelve-year-old son, Marcus, whose mother died in a bathtub under circumstances that were written off as an accident. As Elise's unease about the boy grows, she begins to wonder whether the earlier death was really a accident at all, while her husband dismisses her fears. The film is a psychological thriller set largely within the household, with a small cast circling the question of what the child knows.

Andrea Bianchi directed, working from a screenplay he wrote with Trevor Preston and Bautista Lacasa Nebot; James Kelley is also credited as director, and Harry Alan Towers and Graham Harris produced this British-Italian-Spanish co-production. Mark Lester plays Marcus, Britt Ekland plays Elise, and Hardy Krüger plays Paul, with Lilli Palmer, Harry Andrews and Conchita Montes in supporting roles. The film runs 89 minutes, and comes early in Bianchi's filmography, before the later horror titles he became associated with. On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.9 out of 10 from 56 votes, a middling figure that suggests a modest response from those who have seen it.
