It was produced by a collaboration of companies from Ukraine, Australia, Spain, China, and the United States, with a screenplay written by Shayne Armstrong, S.P. Krause, and Damien Power.
With a budget of 40 million USD, the film underperformed financially, earning 7 million USD at the worldwide box office. Despite the commercial result, the movie has been received positively by its viewers, maintaining a rating of 7.4/10 on TMDB based on 585 votes.
What's left behind the scenes
- In 2014, it was announced that the film would be a sequel to Kimble Rendall's horror movie 'Tsunami 3D'. However, it was decided to abandon the project due to the similarity of its events to the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 730, which occurred that same year. As a result, the script underwent a major rewrite and became the basis for a standalone film.
