Short description
Into the Night is a 1985 comedy thriller about Ed Okin, a Los Angeles engineer stuck in a dull job and a failing marriage who cannot sleep. One night he drives to the airport, and a young woman named Diana jumps onto the hood of his car while armed men chase her. Diana turns out to be involved in smuggling emeralds, and Ed is pulled into a night of pursuit, theft and murder, with the police offering no safe way out for the pair.
John Landis directed from a screenplay by Ron Koslow, with Koslow and George Folsey Jr. producing for Universal Pictures. It was Landis's ninth film as director, following Spies Like Us and preceding ¡Three Amigos!. Jeff Goldblum plays Ed and Michelle Pfeiffer plays Diana; Dan Aykroyd, Carmen Argenziano, Stacey Pickren and Paul Mazursky are among the large credited cast, which includes a number of well-known directors in brief appearances.
The film opened in February 1985 and runs 115 minutes. Against a budget of about 11 million dollars, it took in roughly 7 million worldwide, so it did not recover its cost during its cinema run. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.5 out of 10 from 341 votes, while a critics' rating stands considerably lower at 4.6 out of 10 from 25 reviews, indicating that critics judged it more harshly than viewers did.
