The Score

Nick Wells runs a jazz club in Montreal and has spent years as a professional thief, working strictly alone and never operating in his own city. He is ready to step away from crime for good and settle down with his girlfriend Diane. His friend and longtime associate Max, however, persuades him to take on one more job: stealing a valuable French scepter from a customs building in Montreal. Because the vault is beyond him alone, Max brings in Jack Teller, a younger and more erratic thief who has already worked his way inside the building under cover. The two men must cooperate on a plan in which neither fully trusts the other.

The Score was released in July 2001, directed by Frank Oz. It came after Bowfinger in his filmography of twelve directed features and pairs Robert De Niro as Nick with Edward Norton as Jack, while Marlon Brando plays Max, with Angela Bassett, Gary Farmer and Jamie Harrold also credited among a cast of forty-four.

Produced by Gary Foster and Lee Rich from a screenplay by Kario Salem, Lem Dobbs and Scott Marshall Smith, the film had a budget of 68 million US dollars and returned 114 million worldwide. Audiences rate it modestly: 6.8 out of 10 on IMDb from 143,000 votes and 6.7 out of 10 on TMDB from 1,950 votes, close to the critics' rating of 6.9 out of 10 across 129 reviews.
