Monsieur Hulot works as a designer for Altra, a small Parisian car company preparing to show off its newest creation. The vehicle is a camper packed with elaborate gadgets, and the plan is to display it at an automobile exhibition in Amsterdam. Hulot joins the trip north, travelling with a public relations representative and the company's staff, but the journey quickly turns into a series of mishaps.
Jacques Tati directed and stars as Hulot, the character he had already played in earlier films. Trafic is the fifth feature he directed, arriving after PlayTime, and he wrote the screenplay with Jacques Lagrange. The cast also includes Tony Knepper, Maria Kimberly, Marcel Fraval, Honoré Bostel and François Maisongrosse. Robert Dorfmann produced this Italian-French co-production, which runs 96 minutes.
The film holds a rating of 7 out of 10 on IMDb across roughly 8,300 votes, and 7.1 out of 10 on TMDB from around 224 votes. Released in April 1971, it belongs to the later stretch of Tati's career, followed by Parade and Forza Bastia.
