Day for Night

Day for Night follows a film crew through the making of a movie called Je vous présente Pamela at the Victorine studios in Nice. At the centre is Ferrand, the director, who works to hold the production together as problems pile up in front of and behind the camera. The cast and crew bring their own affairs, moods and conflicts to the shoot, complicating the daily business of getting scenes finished, while the film within the film takes shape alongside them.

François Truffaut directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Suzanne Schiffman and Jean-Louis Richard, and Marcel Berbert produced. It was Truffaut's tenth film as director, arriving after Bed and Board and before The Story of Adèle H. The large credited cast of thirty-one includes Jacqueline Bisset as the American actress Julie Baker, Valentina Cortese as Séverine, Dani as the trainee script girl, Alexandra Stewart, Jean-Pierre Aumont and Jean Champion as the producer Bertrand.

Released in 1973 and running 116 minutes, the film is a comedy-drama from Italian and French production companies. On IMDb it holds a critics' rating of 8.5 out of 10 from 40 reviews, while on TMDB it has 7.8 out of 10 from around 680 votes, indicating that professional critics rated it more highly than the wider audience did.
