Set during the Romanian Revolution in December 1989, Libertate takes place in the city of Sibiu. Amidst widespread protests against the government, a police station is attacked, leading to violent clashes involving civilians, security agents, soldiers, and militia members. In the resulting turmoil, Captain Viorel is captured and accused of terrorism while attempting to escape the siege.
The film was directed by Tudor Giurgiu, marking his second feature following Parking. He also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Nap Toader and Cecilia Ștefănescu. The cast features Alex Calangiu in the lead role of Viorel Stanese, supported by Catalin Herlo, Iulian Postelnicu, Ionuţ Caras, Alexandru Papadopol, and Leonid Doni.
A co-production between Hungary and Romania through Libra Film and Mythberg Films, the movie runs for 109 minutes. It has received a positive response from viewers, holding a 7.4 rating on IMDb based on 2,200 votes and a 6.9 rating on TMDB from 25 votes.
