God Is a Woman

In 1975, Oscar-winning French director Pierre-Dominique Gaisseau spent a year living with the Kuna people in Panama alongside his wife and daughter to film a documentary. Although he promised the community they would see the finished work, the project lost its funding and a bank seized the footage. Decades later, the film has become a legend passed down through generations of Kuna people who still hope to see it. The story follows the discovery of a hidden copy of the footage in Paris.

Directed by Andrés Peyrot, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Elisabeth Wautlet and served as a producer, this documentary was a joint production between Panama, France, and Switzerland. The film features a cast of individuals appearing as themselves, including Arysteides Turpana, Laida Diaz de Prestan, Olonigdi Chiari, Cebaldo Inawinapi, Orgun Wagua, and Duiren Wagua. The production was supported by Mente Pública, P.S. Productions, Upside Films, and Industrie Films. Released on April 3, 2024, the film has a runtime of 85 minutes.
