Ghoomer

The film centres on Anina, a gifted young batter on the verge of her first appearance for India. Shortly before that debut, an accident costs her her right hand, and the future she had built her life around disappears with it. Into that vacuum comes Padam, a former cricketer whose own career ended in disappointment and who now carries a sour, unforgiving manner. He offers her a different path: to return to the national side as a bowler, using a technique built specifically around her changed body. The struggle is as much mental as physical, and it draws in the people around her, including her grandmother and her father.

Ghoomer was released in August 2023 and runs 134 minutes. It is an Indian drama directed by R. Balki, his third feature in the chronological list that also includes Pad Man and Lust Stories 2. The screenplay is by Rishi Virmani and Rahul Sengupta, and the producers include Abhishek Bachchan, R. Balki and Gauri Shinde. Saiyami Kher plays Anina, with Bachchan as Padam, Shabana Azmi as the grandmother, Angad Bedi as Jeet, Ivanka Das as Rasika and Shivendra Singh Dungarpur as Anina's father. The credited cast runs to 135 names. On IMDb the film holds 7.6 out of 10 from over twelve thousand votes, while on TMDB it sits at 8.2 from a much smaller sample of ten.
