Cuba & Alaska

Cuba & Alaska is a documentary about two young Ukrainian paramedics working in the war-torn Kharkiv region. Operating under call signs, the two friends focus on saving lives and evacuating the wounded while using humor and their close bond to cope with the horrors of the front line. As they spend more time in the military, they struggle with a growing disconnect from their former civilian lives and families. While they find solace in dreams of art and fashion, the reality of conflict brings pain and uncertainty, particularly when one of the women is seriously injured.

The film was directed by Egor Troyanovsky and produced by Christian Popp, Hanne Phlypo, and Olha Bregman. This international production was a collaboration between companies from Ukraine, Belgium, and France, including RTBF, ARTE, Shelter Prod, and Česká televize. Released on August 14, 2025, the documentary has a runtime of 94 minutes.
