Short description
Michelle lives a quiet retirement in a Burgundy village alongside her close friend Marie-Claude. Her peace is disrupted when her daughter, Valérie, arrives to leave her son Lucas for a school vacation. During the visit, Michelle serves her daughter toxic mushrooms. While Valérie recovers, the incident damages their strained relationship, leading Valérie to forbid Michelle from seeing her grandson. As Michelle falls into a depression caused by guilt and loneliness, she finds unexpected support in Vincent, Marie-Claude's son, who has recently been released from prison.
Directed and written by François Ozon, who also produced the film, this project is the 19th of 20 films in his career. It follows his 2023 work The Crime Is Mine and precedes The Stranger, released in 2025. The movie features a cast including Hélène Vincent, Josiane Balasko, Ludivine Sagnier, and Pierre Lottin.
The production earned 6 million USD at the worldwide box office. Audience reception is generally positive, with a rating of 6.9/10 from 4,200 votes on IMDb and 6.6/10 from 254 votes on TMDB.
What's left behind the scenes
- The plot of the screenplay is based on a real-life case from the life of François Ozon, the film's director, screenwriter, and producer. One of his aunts prepared mushrooms for relatives that she had gathered herself in the forest. Soon everyone fell ill – with the exception of her, as she did not eat the mushrooms. Ozon always suspected that his aunt intended to poison everyone.
