That They May Face the Rising Sun

Joe and Kate Ruttledge have left London to settle in a small community near the Irish lake where Joe grew up. Their home becomes a gathering place for neighbours who come and go as they please, and the film follows a year of their life there through the rhythms of work and the change of seasons, with weddings, funerals and long kitchen conversations marking the passing time. The story is based on John McGahern's novel of the same name.

Pat Collins directs from a screenplay he wrote with Éamon Little, with Brendan J. Byrne and Tina O'Reilly producing for Harvest Films, Break Out Pictures, South Wind Blows and Cyprus Avenue Films. Barry Ward and Anna Bederke lead the cast as Joe and Kate, alongside Lalor Roddy, Sean McGinley, Ruth McCabe and Phillip Dolan as members of the surrounding community.

The film runs 111 minutes and was released on 26 April 2024. It is a drama made in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
